Fly.io ditched their old setup with Consul because it just couldn't keep up, so they cooked up something awesome called Corrosion! This new system, built with Rust and SQLite, uses clever tricks like CRDTs and the SWIM gossip protocol to sync data super fast across hundreds of nodes globally – all without needing a bossy central leader.
It's a masterclass in building tough distributed systems, letting them replicate SQLite changes in under a second. Basically, they've figured out how to keep everything in sync lightning-fast, everywhere.
