WebTransport: The Next-Level Web Protocol
WebTransport zips past WebSockets and gRPC by riding on HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 to deliver secure, multiplexed, bidirectional channels—with both reliable and “best‐effort” streams for ultra‐low latency. Think real‐time gaming, live charts or collaborative apps that need fast, flexible data pipes without the old HTTP/1.1 baggage.
In his video, Hussein Nasser walks us through the limits of legacy protocols, the rise (and fall) of HTTP/2 push, how Extended CONNECT unlocks WebTransport over different HTTP versions, and even tips on proxying and backfill. He also drops links to his Udemy courses, podcast, Medium posts and other goodies for anyone serious about backend, networking or database engineering.
