Hussein Nasser: We now know why the DNS failed

We now know why the DNS failed

On October 19, 2025 AWS suffered a DNS outage that knocked services offline for over 24 hours. Ten days later they published a detailed Root Cause Analysis revealing a chain reaction: a DNS misconfiguration in DynamoDB that cascaded into EC2 lookup failures and Network Load Balancer hiccups.

The breakdown video timestamps each stage—summary, Dynamo’s DNS loss at 5:30, EC2 errors at 13:41, and NLB problems at 16:16—so you can dive straight into the details. Check out the full RCA on AWS’s website.
