Hussein Nasser: We now know why the DNS failed

We now know that AWS’s massive outage on October 19, 2025—which left DNS down for more than a day—stemmed from a cascading failure that began with Dynamo losing critical DNS records. That glitch then rippled through EC2 (causing instance-level errors) and ultimately tripped up the Network Load Balancers.

AWS published a full Root Cause Analysis ten days later (link below), complete with timestamps for deep dives into the DNS breakdown, EC2 anomalies, and NLB misfires.
